Aguas Frescas Series: Strawberry (Fresa)

Agua de Fresa is a great way to enjoy fresh strawberries and hydrate. This Mexican classic is simple to make and is a great alternative to overly sweetened fruit drinks. This "fresh water" is clean, without preservatives, and is infused with a hint of fresh strawberries.

Like most Aguas Frescas recipes, this one is forgiving. You can choose how much strawberry flavor and sweetness you prefer. This recipe is my favorite balance for Strawberry Water....not overbearingly sweet and a hint of Strawberry. After all, we're not making juice. This is Fresh Water!

This recipe is dedicated to my dog Daisy, who loves strawberries!!

Yields 4 cups

Ingredients
  • Water - 2¾  cups
  • Ice - 2 cups
  • Fresh Strawberries - 2 cups
  • Sugar - 1/4 cup
Method
  • Add the strawberries to your blender with the sugar and ¾ cups of the water. Blend well. Pour the mixture into a bowl through a fine strainer. Discard the pulp / seeds.

  • Pour the strawberry puree into a pitcher and add the remaining water and ice. That's all folks!! Stir and enjoy!!!
Tips and 411
  • You don't have to strain the mixture if you don't mind a thicker beverage with seeds in it. You will need to stir often because the sentiments will settle at the bottom of the pitcher. If you have a Vitamix blender, of course you won't have any seeds!
  • Replace the ice with water if you would rather serve ice by the glass. NOTE: The serving size and recipe portions already assume the ice will melt. So if you choose to substitute the ice for water, you will dilute the beverage when serving with additional ice.
  • It will keep in the refrigerator for a day. Avoid anything beyond a day. The oxidation will start to cause a fermentation-like flavor change.
  • Add some mint or fresh lemons for added freshness!
